Considering a Career

August 27, 2010 - Last night's first-time homebuyer seminar was a great time!  It was the first ever in the office and we had a great group of people. Thank you so much to Tom Trimmer from Tom Trimmer Home Inspections who educated us on home inspections and Dave Olivetti from Wells Fargo for giving us some insight into FICO scores and how to monitor our credit.

August 17, 2010 - I saw this today and thought it made a lot of sense...

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was: "Before you make any major life decision, ask the opinion of five people over the age of 60."

August 5, 2010 - We are hosting a First Time Homebuyers Seminar this month, August 26th at 6:30 here in the office at Linglestown Road in Harrisburg. A mortgage lender and home inspector will be on hand to chat with everyone on what their job is and how they relate to the homebuyer. I also have information on the Dauphin and Cumberland County First Time Homebuyer that I will be presenting. More info to come….

July 30, 2010 - If you are in the real estate business, you know how difficult it can be sometimes when dealing with FHA guidelines.  Even if you are not in the business, this is a small peek into what these folks go through on a daily basis....read now.

July 29, 2010 - Ok, Saturday was hot, hot, hot!  However, I sold $60 worth of doggie cookies - that being 60 bags-for the Susquehanna Valley Service Dogs.  Here is an interesting fact, it takes about $20,000 for each service dog to be ready to be placed with a client.  I better sell a lot more cookies!

July 16, 2010 - I want to do a shout out to one of the agents in my office. Last Sunday Brenda Bent did a 100 mile bike ride for the National Cancer Society. She and a group of friends started in Philadelphia around 7am and finished in New Jersey around 2 in the afternoon (of that same day!!!) Over one million dollars was raised to aid in cancer research and development. Great job Brenda!

July 13, 2010 - I would like to welcome our newest agent to our office, Russell Darkes. He comes to us with many years of experience and specializes in commercial properties as well as farms.

July 12, 2010 - This year Weichert Realtors will be making dog treats and selling them to benefit the Susquehanna Service Dogs. Please stop by the West Shore Hardware bar on the Carlisle Pike on Saturday July 24th between 5am – 1 pm and make a donation or buy a bag of treats to take home to your favorite friend. I'll let you all know how much money we raise.

July 2, 2010 - Well, it took me a whole week to put this into writing because it made me so sad. Out of the 670 homes that we asked for donations for our overseas troops, we received about 50! I was so disappointed and embarrassed. Using those numbers, that means only about 7% of the public is patriotic. I hope we have better odds when we do a food drive for Thanksgiving!

June 25, 2010 - Last Saturday volunteers from the office tagged doors for people to give donations to troops serving overseas. The development we hit is called Forest Hills, it is located right behind the office. I also took some time and went to the neighboring businesses and introduced myself and left some flyers for them. I'll let you know how it turned out next week.
Weichert Realtors First Choice and Elizabethtown VFW Post #5667 are asking for donations for our troops who are serving overseas. Things in dire need are socks and cotton swabs, but anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Used books, magazines and CD’s are great, but if donating toiletries, they must be new. Please use the bags provided and leave any items on your front doorstep. We will be around to collect on June 26th around 8am. If you need additional bags, do not hesitate to give us a call. Thank you so much for your support. If you love your freedom, don’t forget to thank a Vet this Independence Day Holiday.

May 19, 2010 - Had another Think Tank session last night. We did a DOORS presentation and talked about how effective we thought it was and areas that we could improve on. Want to know what DOORS is? Give me a call and I'll tell you all about it!

April 15, 2010 – Bank Foreclosures. My real estate company sells a lot of these properties, but what does it mean? Simply put, it means that the person who used to live in the home stopped paying their mortgage and the bank took possession of the property. The bank is not in a position to then sell the home, so it hires a real estate company to do that for them. These properties are free and clear of any liens or judgments that may have been filed before the bank foreclosed on the home. The list price of the property is determined by what the fair market value is in the neighborhood. It is not determined by how much the previous owner might have owed on the home. Sometimes the banks make money on the process, most of the time they DO NOT. So, are consumers getting a good deal purchasing these homes? Most of the time these properties need some work, they are not in pristine condition. People who are having trouble paying their mortgage cannot afford to make improvements or even fix things that might go wrong with the house. The list price is reflective of that. There are also homes that are in such poor condition that a bank will not even lend money to purchase them! You will not be buying these properties for "pennies on the dollar". The guy who made that info-mercial is rolling in a lot of peoples’ money! However, these properties will be at lower than normal list price.

March 19, 2010 - Realtors are the second most targeted profession by criminals! You need to be safe out there. The third Tuesday of each month we hold a "think tank". The office gets together for snacks and cocktails and we brainstorm and bounce ideas off of each other. March's topic was on getting leads. April is going to be self defense month. We will talk about how to be aware of your surroundings, and I am going to have a self defense instructor in the office for all agents and staff. Anyone else can attend for a $5 charge. Please email me if you wish to participate.
